Yes. It’s very embarrassing when some radical anti-gay activists try to portray homophobia as a legitimate “religious belief.” It makes it look like all Christians believe in that. The reality is that homophobia is a sin like lying, stealing and murder and many of us Christians find it morally repugnant and evil.

(Disclaimer: I hope no one involved with the production of this film will be offended by my uploading these clips. I just thought I would do it as a service to their fans who, I think, will like the adaptation even more with the extra scenes.) When I heard that PBS was cutting seven minutes out of the new BBC production of Jane Austen’s “Persuasion” I was not a happy camper. I decided to figure out what had been cut out and have managed to clip the main missing scenes together. Some other small bits were trimmed, but these are the ones I wish they had kept (particularly the conversations between Capt. Wentworth and Capt. Harville!!). Other scenes that were shortened include: – Lady Russell’s first conversation with Sir Walter – Lady Russell’s conversation with Anne (in Anne’s room) about Capt. Wentworth – Mary’s complaining about being ill when Anne first visits her – The dancing scene after dinner with the Crofts – Walking across the log and then walking across the field – Anne putting on her hat, getting ready to visit Mrs. Smith – Everyone getting seated at the concert at the Pump Rooms They also shortened Anne’s runs through Bath trying to find Capt. Wentworth, and their first kiss was edited down as well. There are several versions of those sections on YouTube already, though, so I will not add them myself (hopefully I managed to get some of the same tags and they will pop up as similar vids). So what is a persuasive topic that is unlikely to believe. So, like “divorce is good for kids” or something like that but you can find prove or some support to back up your topic. (It’s for a persuasive speech)

Have you thought about some sort of paranormal topic that millions of people believe in but are total bunk to a scientific person? Dowsing, ghosts, clairvoiance, and the like. There’s plenty of “evidence” to convince the easily-deceived.

Baby safe Haven Laws. There are plenty of arguments for/against it. I did my persuasive speech on these laws last quarter. I’ve also done a 15 page research paper on the subject. You’d be surprised how many people have never heard of the laws or how they pertain to the public. Hope this helps.

I’m not sure about the one you’ve named, but “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie is now considered a classic of the genre. It was written way back in the 1930s, but was really the first self help/improving success book ever written. It’s very good to read, with some highly useful techniques for achieving exactly what the title says.

Subliminal messaging is the flashing of words for a frame or two in the middle of a movie or show. It was outlawed in America, but it is an inaffective form of covert persuasion? There are many forms of covert persuasion that are very affective, including product placement, repitition, association, and a variatey of word studies that determine what words and images can be said first to induce positive emotions that the mind will subliminally associate with the main subject of focus. These methods are used in political campaigns, product advertising, corprate pr and court rooms. I believe they are the true enemy of American people and democracy. What can we do about it?

Fascinating question. Assuming that we, the public may be powerless to stop the practice, we may need to adopt a new scepticism toward everything that is outside our homes, or comes from outside our homes when we are inside our homes. I know this sounds like saying “adopt a generally cynical attitude towards everything”, but maybe that is just what it takes. Other safeguards are more easily taken: Realize that all sublime messaging only tries to sell you goods or philosophies. If you take a generally hostile attitude toward any goods or aphilosophies brought to you via the media, and ask for any information to be sent to you in WRITING for you peruse, sublime messages will be wasted on you. Can you do that?

Persuasion 1995 – One Sweet Love

I do not claim to own any rights to these clips or the music used, simply for entertainment purposes Well this is my 3rd attempt at a decent tribute to the Persuasion adaption from 1995 and I’m finally quite happy with it. Persuasion is my favourite Jane Austen novel and I really enjoyed this adaption. Although It must be said that I loved Rupert Penry Jones in the 2007 production I think Amanda Root and Ciarán Hinds did an excellent Job of playing Anne and Captain Frederick Wentworth! I chose the song One Sweet Love because I really do think they share a love so sweet – as corny as that sounds! I also think it can refer to the time that Anne has taken to realise just how much she’s wants Wentworth in her life, and she worries that time apart may have taken away that ‘one sweet love.’ I read into songs too much Plus I think Sara Bareilles has such a lovely voice I hope you enjoy it!
