Quiet. Shy. Conservative.
Those that see this young, handsome Hispanic
regularly at St. Anne’s Catholic church suspect he
is intensely spiritual.
Because he always comes to church alone, many
suspect he may be thinking about entering the
priesthood. Always appearing so devout and
serious, his demeanor so reserved and thoughtful.
Those who work along side him on the production
line every day suspect correctly that he doesn’t
drink, or smoke, or do any drugs. To his
supervisors, he is the model employee. He is the
kind of guy you love to have working for you.
Never late, never sick. Not prone to gossip or
argument. Finishes his work quickly and
efficiently. Works well with his hands.
A real team player. An asset.
His parents have always known he was a quiet
child. After the unfortunate accident.
Never easy to make friends, but always obedient.
To his parents, his teachers, the nuns at his
parochial schools. Never truant, always attentive
in class.
Only A’s and B’s on every report card. Moved out
on his own as soon as he finished trade school.
Successful. Bright. Any parent would be proud.
Any parent would be envious.
His neighbors, co-workers, fellow parishioners see
Malcolm as the ideal American. Smart, handsome,
well paid.
Then Malcolm finds himself convinced by a
charismatic stranger to join an intriguing cultural
group.
One that promises to teach secrets long
suppressed by the Church. One that offers
something Malcolm feels is missing.
During a weekend retreat, he has an extraordinary
encounter with an alluring woman, and
experiences a forbidden, long thought forgotten
ceremony.
Malcolm is slowly transformed.
He suddenly finds himself with confidence and
skills he never thought possible. Men are
intimidated by him. Women are drawn to him. Shy
his whole life, Malcolm quickly finds himself
enjoying life as he never thought possible.
Malcolm becomes drawn to girls. Certain girls.
Girls of a pure nature.
And these girls begin showing up dead.
Killed in a sacrificial ritual thought long
extinguished by modern society.
The police are baffled by the horrific killings. No
evidence. No motive. Only an inexplicably
impossible connection between the victims.
Savage terror increasingly paralyzes the city with
each passing day.
And with every conquest, he only becomes more
irresistible.
And more powerfully evil.
